What is a Popup Adventure Playground?
Imagine arriving at a park and finding piles of cardboard boxes, fabric, crates, tubes, tape, buckets, tires, pots and pans, and all kinds of other ordinary stuff waiting to become...whatever children decide.
There are no set activities, no instructions, and no right way to play. Children might build a fort, invent a game, create something enormous, take it apart, haul materials across the park, make a mess, or spend twenty minutes doing something that makes absolutely no sense to the adults watching. That's the point.
These materials are called loose parts: open-ended materials that children can move, combine, change, build with, and use however they choose.
What do we do when we get there?
Just show up and let your child explore.
Our trained Playworkers are there throughout the event. They help create an environment where children have the freedom to follow their own ideas, step in when support is genuinely needed, and otherwise try to stay out of the way of the play.
Parents and caregivers stay on site, but there's no expectation that you entertain your child or help them figure out what to do. You can play alongside them if you're invited, follow their lead, or find a spot nearby and watch.
Stay for twenty minutes or the whole event. There is no schedule to follow and no activity your child needs to complete.
Come dressed for play, expect things to get a little messy, and see what happens when children are given interesting materials, plenty of freedom, and permission to take it from there.
